What To Do If Your Car Is Damaged

Whether your car is drivable or not, we're here for you through every stage. Before starting your insurance claim, it’s important to make sure you're safe first. Above all else, don’t forget to:

  • Pull over to a safe spot and ensure that there are no injuries to you or anyone else in your vehicle. If you see that someone is injured, don’t move them
  • Call 911 if there is an injury and try to stay calm
  • Make sure you know where you are and make yourself visible

What To Do If Your Windshield Is Cracked

If your windshield, or any other glass on your car, has been chipped, broken, or damaged in any way, we’ll work to resolve your insurance claim as quickly as possible. Here are some things to consider:

  • Before you repair a window or windshield on your car, notify TD Insurance so we can work with you on the next steps
  • Inform us if the vehicle is safe to drive

Coverage for windows and windshields is found under Collision, Comprehensive and All Perils. As they are included in the perils part of your coverage, you can feel confident you have coverage.

What To Do After Common Car Accidents

Fender benders and minor accidents are the most common auto insurance claims we receive. So, what do you do if you find yourself in one of these situations?

  • Before taking any other steps, make sure that everyone involved is safe and contact emergency services if needed
  • Report the incident to TD Insurance within seven days to allow us to get started on your claim
  • Take note of your surroundings: Where the incident took place, the weather conditions, and location are details that may be helpful to provide
  • Be prepared to provide details on the incident if asked. We recommend having the following information ready:
    - The year, make and model, of all vehicle(s) involved
    - The registration and license plate number of the vehicle(s) involved
    - The driver of the vehicle’s name, and driver’s license number
    - The police officer's information or the related police report (if involved)

What to do if your home has water damage

Do you have water damage from pipes bursting, rain, or a toilet or bath overflowing? Don’t worry, we’re ready to help.

There are a few simple things you can do to prevent further damage:

  • Turn off your home’s main water lock-off tap (typically found in your basement where exterior water line enters your home.) This will prevent additional water from entering your home.
  • If it’s safe to do so, move all undamaged content from the affected area.
  • You can start to make note or a list of all damaged items in your home.

What to do if your house is damaged from wind and hail

If your home has been damaged by wind or hail ‑ whether the damage was to your roof and shingles, trees and shrubs, or patio furniture, we’ll help make your claim experience as quick and simple as possible.

What to do if there has been a theft or burglary in your home

Nobody likes to imagine that a theft could happen in their home, but it’s always good to be prepared. There are two simple steps you can take now that will make dealing with any theft claim easier later on.

  • Keep a file of all receipts, appraisals and manuals for all of the key contents in your home like a tv, computer or jewelry.
  • Keep pictures or videos of your rooms and contents.

These are both simple ways to help in the process if you ever need to start a claim.

In the event that a burglary happens, there are a few things you do to ensure your safety:

  • Call the police to report the incident and file a report and wait for instructions from them before entering your home.
  • You can start a list describing the damages and loss to your home, property and personal belongings.

When a theft occurs, we’ll make sure you’re ready. Make sure to have the police report information on hand when reporting your claim. We’ll then guide you through the claims experience.

    Submitting a claim online? Visit the Online Claims Portal and complete all steps in the "notify us of a claim" section. Be sure to attach all required documentation within the required timeframe.

    Once you call, a claim form will be sent to you via email or mail.
    When paper claim forms are required for your situation, you may complete and submit the claim form with all required documentation via mail to:

  • 2. Follow-up

    You may be contacted for additional information that may be necessary as our administrator assesses your claim.
