How to Receive a Discount for Safe Driving
TD MyAdvantage is a usage-based insurance savings program that is 100% voluntary and free. The safer you drive, the more you could save!
The program collects and analyzes driving data such as acceleration, braking, speeding, cornering, and time of day, and assigns a driving score for each trip.
Enrolling in the plan is easy. Call a TD Insurance Advisor and let them know you wish to participate in the program and then follow these three steps to receive a discount of up to 10%**:
- Download the TD MyAdvantage app
- Activate the app on your mobile device within 15 days
- Keep recording your trips using the app to keep your discount
It's that simple.
When it's time to renew your policy your average score is used to calculate a discount on your premium of up to 25% which will be applied at the time of your policy renewal. To be eligible for the discount, you need to use the app for at least 120 days, and your app must record 1,000 kms or more. The driving data collected by using the TD MyAdvantage app will not be used to increase your premiums. Premiums are otherwise subject to change in the normal course of insurance business operations and the discounts will be applied against those changes, if applicable.

How TD MyAdvantage works
Using telematics technology, the app analyzes and measures actual driving habits to create an average driving score. This score is used to provide any applicable discounts on your premium upon renewal.
- Every trip counts: the app captures driving data such as speed, braking and overall driving style.
- Recognize your driving habits: each person on the policy who has enrolled in the program and downloaded the app can get feedback on their individual driving behaviour.
- Drive safer: get helpful tips for safer driving and participate in driving challenges to earn badges.
Scoring
Average score
Your average score is based on a 12-month rolling average of your driving scores. Depending on how often you drive, a single trip may or may not significantly impact your score.
Your driving score includes:
Acceleration score: considers how quickly and by how much you increase your speed.
Braking score: considers how quickly and by how much you decrease your speed. Should you need to hard brake to avoid an accident, one occurrence in one trip should not significantly impact your score.
Speeding score: considers whether you’re driving at a safe speed compared to the posted speed limit.
Cornering score: considers how often you are hard cornering.
