How Home Insurance Works for Repairs & Damages

We understand having a damaged home can be a huge hassle. That’s why we do all we can to help you get your life back to normal quickly. A dedicated TD Insurance advisor will work with you every step of the way and support you throughout the claims experience.

Exterior Repairs

If your home’s exterior (eg; roof, fence, windows) gets damaged by wind, hail or fire, or if your home’s been broken into, here’s what to do:

  1. If needed, report the incident
    If the damage was caused by a break-in, call 911, then contact us with your policy number and police report in hand. Otherwise, make a detailed list of all the damage to your home, property and belongings to help your claims process move along quicker.
  2. File your claim
    You can call us or open your claim through the TD Insurance mobile app. A dedicated TD Insurance advisor will work with you every step of the way, to make it as easy as possible.
  3. Repairs & Claim closure
    We can provide a list of preferred contractors to choose from, or you can have your repairs done by a contractor of your choice, whichever you prefer.

Interior Repairs

If your home’s interior (eg. flooring, walls, ceiling) or its contents get damaged, we’re always ready to help. Here's what you can expect in the repair process:

  1. Report the incident
    It's helpful if you have your policy number, police report (if needed) and a detailed list of damages ready when you call.
  2. File your claim
    A dedicated TD Insurance advisor will confirm your coverage, and work through the next steps with you.
  3. Repairs & Claim closure
    If repairs are required, we can offer you a list of preferred contractors to choose from, or you can have your repairs done by a contractor of your choice.

Uninhabitable Home

If you need to temporarily leave your home as a result of a covered loss, we'll do all we can to get you back to your regular life as quickly as possible.

A dedicated TD Insurance Claims advisor will work with you every step of the way, to make sure you’re well-informed of the options available to you, what kind of coverage you have access to, and any issues that might arise out of the process.

Choosing a Contractor

To make the home repair experience as smooth as possible, we offer:

  1. A network of preferred contractors that we can recommend for you.

  2. A warranty on all repair work for 3 years after they're completed, if you use a contractor from our preferred network. This warranty applies so long as you continue to own the home and remain insured with us.

Easy claims, Fast payment

We work hard to make your claims experience as quick and simple as possible.

  • For your convenience, we offer a network of preferred and verified vendors, to make finding someone to help with repairs even easier.
  • If you choose to use one of our preferred vendors, once you’re happy with the work, we'll take care of paying the vendor directly. Otherwise, the settlement will be made directly to you by electronic funds transfer or cheque.
