Top-Up Your Travel Insurance

Preparing for a trip? It’s also a good idea to consider travel insurance in your plans. If you have an existing travel insurance plan but want to extend your period of coverage, consider "top-up" coverage. TD Travel Insurance offers the ability to apply for top-up coverage, whether it’s an existing TD Travel Medical Insurance plan or when you have another insurer's coverage.

What is top-up coverage?

Top-up coverage is an optional insurance coverage you can apply for that allows you to extend the coverage period you may already have through a credit card, or an employer. Purchasing top-up insurance can help provide travel medical insurance coverage for travelers who find themselves away for longer than they're covered.

What is top-up coverage for credit cards?

You have the option to apply for top-up coverage and extend the length of your travel medical insurance coverage on your credit card. TD Insurance offers a top-up coverage option for certain TD Visa* Credit Cards, allowing you to extend your insurance coverage period during your trip:

  •   TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card
  •   TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card
  •   TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite* Card
  •   TD Cash Back Visa Infinite* Card
  •   TD® Aeroplan® Visa* Business Card
  •   TD Business Travel Visa* Card

Why might you want to consider top-up coverage?

A number of Canadians get travel insurance through their work or credit card. Sometimes this coverage can have restrictions on the amount of time you can be considered “away.” Top-up insurance can provide coverage for the dates after that initial travel insurance coverage expires. By going this route, you can have medical coverage, for eligible claims for the number of days you top-up for.

How do you apply to top-up your coverage?

If you already have TD Travel Medical Insurance coverage, you can apply to top-up your plan at any time. Get in touch with TD Travel Insurance Advisor by giving us a call at 1-800-293-4941 or 416-977-5040.

If you’re looking to top-up your coverage and you’re with a different insurance provider, that’s okay too. You’ll have to apply before your trip to be eligible to top-up your coverage.

In both cases, you will be required to meet the requested terms and conditions associated with the insurance plan, including paying the required premium for top-up coverage.
