Home Insurance Claims – Water Damage

I have water damage in my home. What now?

Water can cause significant damage to your home and must be dealt with right away to prevent further problems.

Let us provide our expertise to help keep you safe, keep damage to a minimum and guide you through the claims process.

Step 1
Step 1:

Protect yourself

The combination of water and electricity can be deadly. Do not enter a flooded basement unless you arrange for the main electrical supply to be turned off, but only if this can be done safely.

Step 2
Step 2:

Protect your property

After electricity in the affected areas has been turned off, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage to your property:

  • Do not handle items that are damaged by a sewer backup.
  • For all other water sources, remove undamaged items from the affected areas or lift them off the floor where possible.
  • Make sure your valuables and important documents are stored in a safe, dry place.
  • If the problem occurs in the winter months, maintain normal heat and avoid raising the temperature.
  • If the plumbing or heating system is found to be frozen, be sure to turn off the water supply first before restoring heat.

Do not dispose of damaged personal property without first notifying us.
