Condo insurance

If you own a condo in British Columbia, having condo insurance can help protect you against unexpected expenses. Where home insurance covers your entire property, condo insurance focuses on what’s in your unit, like personal liability, loss or damage to your personal belongings, or improvements to the unit itself. It can also cover your share of eligible loss assessments related to loss or damage to common areas. We offer coverage for temporary living expenses too, if you’re unable to live at home while repairs are being made as a result of a covered claim.

Our Condo Global Amount Coverage is specifically designed to cover personal liability, your personal belongings, and improvements to your unit, along with coverage for eligible loss assessments to help fill the gaps left by your condo corporation’s insurance policy. Tenant insurance

Home insurance isn’t just for homeowners. If you're renting in BC, tenant insurance, also known as renter's insurance, covers your belongings, including your furniture, electronics, and jewellery, when you're renting. You'll also receive additional coverage benefits such as personal liability, additional living expenses and much more.

Frequently asked questions

Due to climate change, extreme weather events have increased all across Canada, including British Columbia. This means increased risks for insurers—so if your home is in a high-risk area (for example, if you live in a wildfire zone or in an area that sees a lot of heavy rain or flooding), you may see an impact on your home insurance, such as higher premiums or stricter coverage terms.

The cost of home insurance depends on a mix of risk factors, such as the age of your home, what home improvements you've made, and even your postal code. And in BC, many of the risks insurers look at have been rising, which has increased the cost of home insurance in the province.

For example, more extreme weather events due to climate change, rising home values, and higher rebuild costs have all had an impact on the premiums BC homeowners pay. And while coverages like earthquake coverage are optional, homeowners living in high-risk areas in British Columbia often purchase these add-ons, adding to the cost of their home insurance premiums.
