TD Insurance COVID-19 Travel Insurance Information

We appreciate your patience as we experience higher than normal call volumes. If you are eligible for travel insurance benefits, any delay to speak with an agent in order to file your claim will not impact your coverage. Thank you for your understanding during this time.

Below are answers to some of the questions you might have about your insurance coverage.

It is important to note, like all claims submitted, approval of your COVID-19 related claims will be subject to the terms of your policy/certificate, including pre-existing medical conditions, medical emergencies occurring outside of the coverage period and non-emergency services exclusions.

Do I have medical emergency coverage for COVID-19?

Travel within Canada: COVID-19 related medical claims that are not covered by your provincial health insurance are eligible for coverage under your TD Travel Medical Insurance plan.

Travel outside of Canada: If your destination is not subject to an "Avoid all travel" or "Avoid all non-essential travel" advisory prior to your departure date, COVID-19 related medical claims are eligible for coverage under your TD Travel Medical Insurance plan.

Before you travel, please refer to the Government of Canada website for more information on applicable Travel Advisories.

Do I have coverage under Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Insurance if I cannot depart from or return to my province/territory of residence because I tested positive for COVID-19 before my flight?

You are eligible for Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption coverage due to COVID-19 provided you:

  • Book a trip to a destination before the "avoid non-essential" or "avoid all" travel advisory issued by the Government of Canada is in effect for that destination (or globally) and
  • Purchase TD Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Insurance for a destination, before the "avoid non-essential" or "avoid all" travel advisory issued by the Government of Canada is in effect for that destination (or globally

If you must cancel your trip, you may be eligible to receive a refund from your travel supplier. Please contact your travel supplier to see if you are eligible.

The coverage amount will be in accordance with what is stipulated in your TD Travel Medical Insurance policy/certificate.

Am I covered for the cost of a COVID-19 test that is required to depart from or return to my province/territory of residence (including molecular/PCR testing)?

No, TD Travel Insurance plans do not cover any fees for COVID-19 testing required by a travel supplier (e.g., airlines, trains, cruise ships, etc.) or a governmental body to depart from or return to Canada.

If I am already at my destination and an "Avoid all non-essential travel" or "Avoid all travel" advisory is issued, am I still covered for COVID-19 related claims?

Yes, under this scenario you are eligible for the TD Travel Medical Insurance coverage.
