Home Insurance Claims - Fire

There was a fire in my home. What now?

A home fire can be a traumatic experience. Here’s how we can help you get through this difficult situation as quickly as possible.

Step 1
Step 1:

Safety is priority

  • If you are in your home during a fire, ensure everyone leaves the building immediately
  • Call the fire department as soon as you can
  • Wait in a safe place outside the building, such as in a car or at a neighbour’s home, for the fire department to arrive
  • Do not re-enter the building without approval from the authorities
Step 2
Step 2:

Contact us

Report the problem by calling us, toll-free, at 1-866-454-8910. If possible, have your policy number handy.

Step 3
Step 3:

Are emergency repair services needed?

If emergency services are needed:

We’ve partnered with vendors/contractors across Canada to help you restore your home as quickly as possible. One of our vendors will be in touch with you within 2 hours of the claim being reported.

If temporary accommodation is needed:

If you can’t stay in your home, we will work with you to arrange alternate accommodations.

If emergency services are not needed:

A claims representative will contact you within one business day to start the claims process.

Step 4
Step 4:

Assess the damage

Prepare a list describing what has been damaged or lost. Take pictures/video of the damage if possible.

Do not dispose of damaged personal property without first notifying us.

Step 5
Step 5:

Provide details of loss

A claims representative will work with you to confirm the details of your loss and guide you throughout the claims process.

Step 6
Step 6:

Provide documents

You may be asked to provide us with proof of ownership and/or original invoices to support your claim. You may also be asked to complete and return a Proof of Loss – Fire form, which you can find on the claim forms page.

Step 7
Step 7:

Estimate the damages

Using a TD Insurance Preferred Partner

We’ve partnered with contractors across Canada. If you choose to complete the loss-related repairs with one of them, TD Insurance will coordinate to get an estimate and ensure the work is done as quickly as possible.

We will guarantee our contractor’s workmanship for a period of 2 years following the completion of repairs.

Not using a TD Insurance Preferred Partner

If you choose to use your contractor, a TD Insurance professional will need to assess and estimate the damages before the repairs get started.

Whichever option you choose, you can rely on our expertise. We’ll guide you through the repair process and make sure to keep you well informed.
